Mom's German Chocolate Cookies

1 box German chocolate cake mix with pudding included
1/2 c. instant mashed potato flakes
1 t. cream of tartar
1 T. cinnamon
3/4 c. melted butter
3 T. milk
1 large egg
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/3 c. sugar

Icing
1 c. powdered sugar
2 t. unsweetened cocoa
1 T. soft butter
1 1/2 T. milk
1/2 c. pecan pieces (save to drop on top)

Heat oven to 350F. Combine cake mix, potatoes, tartar, cinnamon, butter, milk, and egg. Blend well. Stir in pecans. Let stand about 5 minutes.

Place sugar in bowl or onto plate. Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls into sugar. Gently toss until sugar coated. Place on ungreased cookie sheet - about 2 inches apart. Bake at 350F for 8-10 minutes. Cookies should be soft in center. Cool on cookie sheet 1-2 minutes. Remove from pans and frost with icing. Blend all icing ingredients until smooth and then ice cookies. Dust with pecan pieces. Makes about 48 cookies.
